Affirmations:

 

An affirmation is a highly directed statement designed to encourage you think positively about some goal, intention or desire.

They are as old as mankind and have survived because ultimately people find they can be a powerful way to stay focused in getting what you want.

Here is one way to do it:

Step 1: IMAGINE that you have already achieved your goal!

Think of the goal as having been reached now, not some time in the future.

 

Step 2: DESCRIBE your goal using a positive, short statement in the present tense

e.g.

"I am a highly competent supervisor"
"I have a terrific work life balance"
"I am managing a highly motivated team
"I am fit and healthy and full of energy and vitality"

(these represent your desired future)

 

Step 3: WRITE DOWN the affirmation in clear, bold lettering

 

Step 4: CARRY IT AROUND WITH YOU

 

Step 5: REPEAT IT regularly to yourself constantly-journeying to work, in the bath, during a coffee break, last thing at night. You can do this either silently in your mind or perhaps aloud if you are alone.

 

Step 6: BEHAVE as if the future is already hear and allow the affirmation to influence your daily behaviour

Affirmations are essentially visualisations that "program" your mind to think positively about something. They can be incredibly powerful in supporting you to achieve some goal, or simply to live in a certain way.
